The National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will meet on Thursday in Abuja to decide if the on-going strike action will be called off or continued.

A source in the union, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed this to Premium Times, on Wednesday.

“NEC will hold a decisive meeting tomorrow and will collate the outcome of all branch meetings held,” the source said.

On Wednesday, various ASUU branches reportedly held congresses to deliberate on the FG’s offer.

Officials of the union who were contacted declined to speak on record on the likely outcome of the meeting.

Also, Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President did not pick or return calls seeking comments.

The federal government team led by Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, and his Education counterpart, Adamu Adamu, on Thursday last week, had presented the FG’s concession to the union.

The union, however, promised to get back to the FG in a week’s time after taking a decision as to whether the strike will be called off or not.

ASUU declared a nationwide strike in August to protest against poor funding of varsities and issues relating to salaries.
