The Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, visited some ministries in the state without prior notice, where he gave an order that three commissioners should be locked out for not being in their office as early as 8am. The ministries he visited are Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, Women Affairs and Sustainable Development.
Of all the four ministries, it was only Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Stella Odey, was on seat to receive him.
When he got to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Commissioner, Prof. Egrinya Eneji, and his directors were not available with no explanation given for their absence.
The Governor went to the Ministry of Water Resources, and Commissioner Gabe Odu Orji wasn’t on duty as at the time of his visit, and he prompted his directive that the commissioner be locked out.
Same thing happened in the Ministry of Sustainable, the Governor was equally disappointed by the absence of the commissioner, Oliver Orok, he was not on seat and the Governor ordered that he should be locked out of office.
Ayade was disappointment at the lack of dedication to duty by the various heads of the ministries, he commended Odey for what he described as her devotion to duty.
He said he was saddened by what he saw and it’s shocking that it is already past 8 am, yet commissioners cannot be found on their seats. He said he will not take the culture of lateness to work kindly and he’s going to do something about it. However, he commended Odey for her exceptional conduct.
