Five jubilating members of Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) were killed.

The incident happened as members of the IPOB were jubilating over the decision of a Federal High Court in Abuja to release Nnamdi KANU, the director of Radio Biafra, when soldiers attached to the regiments in Onitsha opened fire on them, 25 were injured and 5 were died instantly.

The soldiers thought that IPOB supporters had trooped out to protest against the detention of their leader, Nnamdi KANU, not knowing that they were only celebrating his release.

This incident happened at the Onitsha end of river Niger, which caused panic among the motorists and comuters who scampered for safety but some IPOB members courageously threw pebbles back at the soldiers who retaliated by shooting at the defenseless people.
