Borno Attacks: Gov. Shettima meets Civilian JTF, ‎announces welfare package for members

Kashim ShettimaSequel to attacks by Boko Haram in Borno, Governor Kashim Shettima, held a meeting on Tuesday with the youth volunteers that are involved in counter insurgency operations popularly known as “Civilian JTF” during which he appreciated their brave efforts and he unveiled the welfare packages he has for them.
The meeting was held at the Multipurpose hall of the Government House in Maiduguri.
The governor met with leaders of the volunteer group behind the close doors, focusing their discussion on enhancing community policies.
Governor Shettima paid tributes to the volunteers for sacrificing their lives and complimenting the efforts of armed forces to fight for the restoration of peace in the state.
He stated that no amount of welfare package can equate the sacrifices made by the volunteers despite the fact that some of them had died in the course for Borno State.
The governor said irrespective of the meager resource of the state, the Government would use up whatever it takes to ensure that the volunteers were duly paid, equipped and highly motivated. He announced a bonus of N20 million naira to the volunteers while directing that any backlog of ‎allowances be paid immediately.

Mr. Shettima directed the Ministry of Health to put a structures in place that will guarantee free and adequate medical attention to all youth volunteers in all public hospitals across the state. He also ordered for the supply of more patrol vehicles to the volunteers.
He stated his unending indebtedness to the volunteers‎ who showed outright sacrifices  for the peace of the state. He assured them that once all is settled, the herculean task of creating jobs which will engage the multitude of youths who stood firm and ensure that there’s peace in the state.
The governor also commended President Buhari for his effort against Boko Haram and for his role towards restructuring the military.

The leader of the civilian JTF, Baba Lawan Jaafar, pledged continuous commitment of his members to support the military in the fight against insurgency in Borno State. He said they were motivated by Governor Shettima’s support for them over the years.
He paid condolence to the governor over last Sunday’s attack on Ali Dawari town located on an outskirt of Maiduguri were many lives were lost.
He added that their tactics and mode of operation had changed. Hoping by the grace of God, we are going to resist their new tactics of inflicting havoc,” Mr. Jaafar promised.
