The House of Representatives has handed down a 180 legislative days suspension to former chairman of the appropriations committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, a lawmaker from Kano, over an alleged breach of legislators’ privileges in the budget padding scandal.The House seats three days in a week and this consequently means that Mr. Jibrin’s suspension would last more than a year.
Jibrin, who failed to show up at the ethics and privileges committee to defend himself, was suspended following the report and recommendations laid before the house by the committee after the conclusion of its hearing.
In the report which was submitted by the House Ethics Committee chairman, Nicholas Ossai, and adopted by the whole House, Mr. Jibrin will also not be able to hold any position of responsibility for the span of the current National Assembly.
According to the House calendar, one legislative year comprises 181 days.
