Many people are feared dead after twin bomb explosions rocked the University of Maiduguri at about 5:00AM on Monday (Today).
One of the suicide bombers detonated the bomb at a Mosque near Gate 1, when people were observing their early morning prayer, while the second one occurred around Gate 5 of the University.
Rescue and security officials were at scene and according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), “seventeen (17) injured victims were evacuated to Hospital.”
“Two (2 ) persons and two ( 2) suicide bombers confirmed dead (total of Four) at the time of response.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is believed to have been carried out by the Boko Haram.
Monday’s explosion is the first major onslaught on the university since the insurgency began over seven years ago.
The Borno police spokesperson, Victor Isuku, confirmed the explosions but could not provide details.
