It was a weekend that saw fresh pressure mount on Wenger’s Arsenal side, as the Gunners were beaten by 3 goals to 1 in the opening fixture of the weekend. It is a result that moves Arsenal to position six on the table, with huge risk of not qualifying the Champions League next season.

Chelsea continued their blistering form by seeing off resilient Stoke City 2 – 1 courtesy Willian’s free kick and Gary Cahill’s late winner.

Middlesbrough played host to Manchester United on Sunday, March 19, 2017, and the Red Devils came out with a 3 – 1 victory over their host, thereby overtaking misfiring Arsenal in position 5 on the table.

Tottenham Hotspurs are not looking to take their foot off the gas as their also recorded a 2 – 1 win against Southampton. It a result that ensures they remain second on the English Premiere League table.

In the star match of the weekend, it was a fierce battle at the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City and Liverpool battled for supremacy.  The encounter lived up to its billing as both sides created a host of chances but were wasteful in the end.

A frantic first-half saw both teams go close to taking the lead, but it was Liverpool who broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 51st minute after Gael Clichy fouled Roberto Firmino. James Milner kept his cool from 12 yards to score against his former club.

Sergio Aguero drew the hosts level on 69 minutes, tapping in from a low Kevin De Bruyne cross.

De Bruyne struck the post following a goalmouth scramble on 75 minutes after Aguero had lost his footing when presented with a clear opportunity in front of goal, while Adam Lallana wasted a gilt-edged opportunity from close range as both sides continued to attack and create chances.

City stay third but fall two points behind Tottenham after they beat Southampton earlier, while Liverpool stay fourth, ahead of Manchester United — who have two games in hand — by four points.
