Two police officers of the Ebonyi State command has been hospitalized sequel to the injuries they got from being attacked by crowd at a scene they went to provide security They were ripped of their service AK-47 rifles.
The two police officers whose names and ranks wasn’t ascertained instantly were attacked at Amofia Ngbo, Ohaukwu local government area of the state.
The officers went to the community just to arrest a man that stabbed another man who demanded to the payment of the money he owed. They were surrounded by members of the community who prevented the officers from carrying out their duty by arresting the suspect.
A witness said the police officers insisted that the suspect must be arrested and swooped on him.
Another source said sequel to the attack on the police officers, several police officers stormed the area in the late evening and started destroying things.
He disclosed that houses were razed in the police reprisal attack.
The Police spokesperson, George Okafor, confirmed the incident, saying the police officers attacked are responding to treatment and that their AK-47 rifles snatched were still missing.
Mr. Okafor said some arrests had been made in connection to the incident while members of the community have fled following the reprisal attack.
