Honourable Monday Igbuya, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, was Thursday impeached over allegations of incompetence, financial misappropriation and highhandedness.
Igbuya was replaced by Sheriff Oborevwori, member representing Okpe Constituency.
The PUNCH reports that Friday Osanebi, the Deputy Speaker, presided at the assembly sitting. The former speaker was impeached alongside the Majority Leader, Tim Owhofere.
It was gathered that the sitting started about 7:06am which was against the usual 10am for sitting by the House. Only the impeached persons were absent.
Also, the lawmakers suspended Igbuya for three months while the former Majority Leader was replaced by Johnson Erijo.
At the end of the sitting, the new Speaker and other members were said to have proceeded to Government House to inform Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the state Governor, of the change in the house leadership.
According to reports, 22 out of the 29 members of the state house of Assembly signed Igbuya’s impeachment notice.
The governor was still at a closed-door meeting with the assembly members at the time of filing this report.
