Driver convicted for attempting to bribe FRSC official

A mobile court sitting in Benin City today (Wednesday), convicted a motorist, Ayo Okundaye for attempting to offer N500 bribe to an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).https://i0.wp.com/i.onthe.io/vllkyt9trst5qcsva.629e2f89.jpg?w=640&ssl=1

The Trial Magistrate, Mr. Friday Igbinosa found Mr. Okundaye guilty of a three-count charge of driving without number plate, forged driver’s license and attempt to bribe FRSC official on duty, ordered him to pay N35,000 for the offenses.

The convict, pleaded guilty to the charges, but maintained that the money was not a bribe but a gratification.

Sentencing the convict, Mr. Igbinosa, said act of corruption was a serious offence the present administration frowns at, saying that “even the commission has zero tolerance for such act.’’

“I however, commend you for admitting guilt but must warn you to desist from the act and ensure you go through appropriate quarters to acquire your vehicle particulars and driver’s license in the future”, he said.

He however ordered the forfeiture of the faked driver’s license.

Igbinosa also commended the FRSC official for resisting the temptation to receive bribe and urged other marshals to emulate his deeds.

The court also ordered the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekiadolor, SP Patrick Okosun to produce in court on Nov. 6, the fleeing Owan Youth development chairman to answer to the allegation of obstruction of duty.

The fleeing youth chairman was said to have allegedly assaulted FRSC marshal on duty before the intervention of officers from the Ekiadolor police station.

The court also ordered the DPO to tow the impounded vehicle to the court premises on the said adjourned date
