Fire outbreak on a pipeline network located in Arepo, a community in Ogun State, south-west Nigeria has led to the death and injury of many. Although the number of dead and injured victims is yet to be ascertained.
Residents of the community, who witnessed the mishap revealed in an interview that about scores lost their lives to the inferno.
According to Channels, they expressed worries that it was not the first time vandals had carried out criminal activities around the pipeline network.
They added that matters may be worse as the private security outfit saddled with protecting the pipelines had been withdrawn.
After the fire incident, the supply of petroleum product through the pipeline network in Arepo was shut down.
Government authorities said the suspension of supply was to suffocate the fire which consumed the pipeline, owing to the activities of suspected vandals.
The supplies will resume as soon as the damaged line is fixed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
