floodThe National Emergency management Agency (NEMA), through its Director-General, has said more floods should be expected in the northern part of the country.

Mr Sani Sidi, made this public on Wednesday, during inspection of some of the areas affected by flood in Kaduna State.

Sidi warned persons living around flood prone areas to evacuate as more flood is expected in the coming days in parts of the northern region.

He said the recent flood was the highest water level that ever hit Kaduna State.

The director general, however, dismissed suggestions that the flood was as a result of the opening of Lagdo dam.

He said the management of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium had agreed to provide space to shelter some of the victims, pending when the flood subsided.

In his view, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency is working hard on how to move people to safer places before assistance could be rendered to them.

Sidi said the northern region was most affected by this year’s flood, with 63 Local Governments Areas in Kaduna, Jigawa, Kebbi and Adamawa states.

He said NEMA was liaising with the state governments to evacuate the people to safer areas before the water level would drop.

Sidi appealed to residents to adhere to building plans and regulations, even as he warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the drains to prevent flooding.
