A former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, has returned to Nigeria, after six years.
The British Airways flight Ibori boarded from London arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja, at 4:30am on Saturday.
His arrival took many of his associates by surprise.
He is expected to return to the UK to keep his February 17 date with the Southwark Crown Court in the ongoing asset seizure hearing.
On arrival, James Ibori was picked up by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, where he held a meeting with Lawal Daura, the director-general.
It was however stated that Ibori’s briefing with the DSS should not be interpreted as an “arrest”.
“It was pre-arranged that he should have a chat with the DSS director-general upon his arrival. He will not be detained. His appointment was for 12:00 hrs so the operatives went to pick him up and then drove him down for the meeting.”
