Aleksandar Kolarov has signed a three-year deal with Roma, the Serie A club have announced.

Kolarov has completed a €5m (£4.4m) move to the Stadio Olimpico after being allowed to leave Manchester City.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a successful seven-year spell at the Etihad after joining from Lazio in 2010 but the Serbia international was forced to play a bit-part role last season under Pep Guardiola.

Kolarov will now join up with the Italian club in Boston as they continue their pre-season tour of the United States.

“I am extremely happy to be here,” Kolarov told Roma’s website. “I will give 100 per cent and more for Roma.

“My objective is always the same: to win.”

Kolarov becomes the latest defender to leave City this summer, following Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna out of the club.

The experienced left-back, who won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at the Eithad, issued a heartfelt statement to the club’s supporters after completing his transfer to Roma.

“When I came in 2010, honestly, I didn’t expect to play so long,” Kolarov told Manchester City’s website. “Today is the day I have to say goodbye. Everything was quick the last couple of days. For me, it’s a very sad day.

“In every part of the Club we have improved not 100 per cent but 200 per cent. Now we are a far better Club than what we were when I came. I am proud that I was part of making City the Club that it is.

“For me it was a great pleasure to play for this shirt.”

Kolarov could make his debut for Roma against Tottenham in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday.
