Lassa fever: Lagos lawmaker urges residents to be cautious

A house of assembly member in Lagos, Segun Olulade, has called on residents of Lagos State to be cautious and report any symptoms of Lassa fever to the nearest hospital.Lasa Fever

The chairman house committee on health service, Segun Oluade, based on the news that Lassa fever outbreak confirmed in Taraba State, when one person had died because of it and two other persons quarantined, advised Lagosians to look out for every symptoms of the disease in the community and immediately report if any is discovered within the community.

He stated some of the  symptoms of Lassa fever which include nasal bleeding, bleeding through the anus and mouth, he added that Lassa virus can be gotten from infected rodents while person to person transmission occurs through direct contact with an infected person.

Lassa fever has been described as an acute viral haemorrhagic illness of one to four weeks duration that occurs in West Africa. Experts says it can be transmitted to humans through contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or fecal matter.
