Manchester United have won the Europa League after beating Ajax 2-0 in the final of the competition, at Friends Arena in Stockholm.

It was the first time that United would win the Europa League trophy.

The victory was the second trophy  won by United in the first season under the watch of Jose Mourinho.

The joy for United is not just in the trophy won, but the fact that it comes with a qualification ticket for the lucrative UEFA Champions League group stage next season, having finished sixth in premier league this season.

Paul Pogba scored United’s first goal with an 18 yard strike, which was deflected into goal in the 18th minute.

Then in the second half, Henrik Mkhitaryan doubled United’s advantage in just three minutes of play.

United looked well in control from that point and had a chance to kill off the game after 65 minutes when Pogba’s cross found Fellaini, but the Belgian could only head straight at Onana.

Ajax attempted to find a way back into game as the clock ticked down but United never really looked threatened and ultimately proved comfortable Europa League victors.
