The Nigerian government will establish a world-class film village in Kano, with a view to standardizing local film production and creation of jobs.
Speaking at an interactive session with the stakeholders, a member representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, said the 20-hectare centre would be equipped with state-of-art facilities and equipment for film making.
Mr. Jibrin, who is the promoter of the project, said the film village is a one-stop shop that would provide the equipment and the environment required for quality film production.
“The film village has cinematography centre, 400-capacity auditorium for training, hostel, sound stage, eatery block, three-star hotel, shopping mall, stadium, clinic, among others,” he said.
According to him, the centre was modeled out of an Indian film city and a Chinese film centre.
Mr. Jibrin also revealed that N1billion would soon be released by the federal government for the kick-off of the initial stage of the project.
Also speaking at the event, a former president of Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (MOPAN), Sani Mu’azu, said the centre would create 4,500 jobs and reduce import of film equipment.
While appreciating the effort of the lawmaker for promoting the project, Mr. Muazu said the centre would also bring boost to advertisement industry by production of first-rate commercials.
In his remark, the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed appreciation to the federal government for siting the project in Kano.
The governor said his government would sponsor some of the artists to acquire foreign training in cinematography and film-making.
The event attracted film makers, producers, artists and other stakeholders across the country.
