Whenever the Nigerian Immigration Service employment is mentioned, what comes to mind is the scam and the resultant deaths from the 2014 recruitment scam.
After thorough examination, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Abba Moro, former minister of interior in the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
A top operative of the anti-graft agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Moro was arrested on Monday.
“Abba Moro is currently with us,” he said.
“He was arrested in connection with the 2014 immigration recruitment scam. And most likely he will be charged to court.”
Recall that in March 2014, at least 20 job seekers died following stampedes at centres where tests for recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were to be conducted.
The Jonathan government received scathing criticisms for the incident, but it failed to discipline the officials behind the unfortunate exercise.
