NNPC partners NSCDC on “Infrastructural Protection”

NSCDCThe Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, says the Corps is a specialized Security Government Agency always positioned to protect the Critical Infrastructure  of the country, and will always deliver on its constitutional  mandate.

The CG made this statement today, during the courtesy visit by Dr. Maikanti Baru, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in his office at the Corps National Headquarters, Abuja.

In his remark, Dr. Maikanti Baru noted, that the high point of the visit is to thank the NSCDC for the unrivalled collaboration with the Corporation, and the efforts of the Corps in curtailing the menace of vandalism nationwide.

Dr. Maikanti affirmed that the NSCDC is the Forerunner Security Agency in the country in charge of Protection of Critical Infrastructure, therefore NNPC really needs the organization to step up efforts to combat the menace of vandalism that has brought the 2.2 million barrels of budgeted oil per day, to have a shortfall of 700,000 barrels of oil daily. The supply of gas from 1.4 billion to 700 million, has greatly affected the economy of the country, as well as the power sector.

The GMD asserted that the NNPC is committed to partnering with the NSCDC  to curb the loses experienced by the Corporation due to activities of vandals.

In a swift reaction, the Commandant General noted, that the NSCDC has destroyed 450 illegal refineries nationwide and over 3,000 vandals have been arrested, while Trucks impounded have been handed over to the Ministry of Defence as requested.

The Leader of the Civil Defence pointed out that the Corps is faced with challenges, that have really affected the capacity of carrying out actions on vandals.

According to him, ” The Corps is faced with the challenge of not having enough tools to quell the activities of vandals. We are in need of Arms, Patrol vehicles and other security appliances to enable us wipe off this very organized vandals who have equipped themselves with very sophisticated weapons to carry out their dastard acts ”.

Abdullahi posited firmly, that with the availability of these tools, the NSCDC will be empowered the more to discharge its constitutional mandate, and will ensure that all Critical Infrastructure and National Assets under the watch of the NNPC will be safe.

Appreciating the Commandant General and the NSCDC once again, the Group Managing Director, declared that the Group Managing Director Corporate Affairs and the Chief Security Officer of the NNPC will work closely with the NSCDC to enable the Corps  succeed.
