70-year-old former American football star, O.J Simpson, has been granted a parole, and he is expected to leave prison as early as October 1.
Reprieve came for the former star on Thursday, after a parole board voted to approve his release.
His Crime
He has spent over eight years of his 33-year sentence for armed robbery done in 2007 in a Las Vegas casino hotel room. At the time, Simpson and some men were said to have stormed the hotel room to demand from sports memorabilia dealers some collectibles he claimed were his.
Reaction
Reacting to his pardon, Simpson said: “I wish this would have never happened”.
“I’ve done my time. I’ve done it as well and respectfully as anybody can. I’ve honored their verdict. I’ve not complained for nine years. I want to get back to my kids.”
“I am sorry that things turned out the way they did. I had no intent to commit a crime”.
“It wasn’t worth it,” he said.
Charged with killing of wife
The former football player first fell from grace more than 20 years ago when he was charged with killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
Simpson was ultimately acquitted.
