The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has called on the Federal Government on Tuesday in Abuja, when he paid courtesy call on the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Ngige, saying he should establish labour unemployment centres across the federation.
He said it will enable the ministry to have comprehensive database of qualified but unemployed youth.
Oshiomole, acknowledged the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari saying he had made it clear that its purpose was to improve the welfare of the people and one of the way to achieve it is by creating jobs for qualified unemployed youths which he had too had benefited from when he was in his early as twenties.
He said reintroduction of labour unemployment centres for unemployed youths will give opportunity for employers of labour to contact and recruit those who registered. It will enable those that registered to acquire training and also enrole for any trainee job as at when due.
He also called on employers of labor to let Ministry of Labor and Employment know anytime they are recruiting or retrenching members of staff in their establishments.
Mr James Ocholi, the Minister of State in the ministry, who commended the governor for his instructive suggestion, promised that the ministry would heed the advice.
The Minister responded to the Governor’s call saying things will change for better under his leadership, he also said that the expectations of the youth concerning employment would be met.
