The Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 48-year-old driver, Okechukwu Okoli, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly assaulting his neighbour’s daughter by “touching her breast”.
The accused, a resident of nNo. 100, Old Abeokuta Road, Agege, Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of indecent treatment of a child.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the offense was committed on Aug. 24, at the residence of the Mr. Okechukwu. Iseghede said the accused called the victim, who is an an 11-year-old girl, to his room under the pretense of sending her on an errand, only for him to remove her blouse and start fondling her breast.
“It was one of the neigbours who sighted the accused, that raised an alarm,” he said. The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, refused the bail application of the Defence Counsel and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody. He adjourned the case to Sept. 30, for ruling on bail application.
