Two suspected armed robbers that were trying to escape after an attack at Etohu community in Elements local government area in Rivers State yesterday were killed by men of the Rivers State police command.
The increasing insecurity in the state was blamed on the constant redeployment of police officers out of the state.
The police in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by its image maker, Ahmad Muhammad, declared that other members of the gang escaped with gun shot wounds.
Part of the statement reads “Today 13/01/2016 at about 03:30 pm, police patrol team were informed of an armed robbery taking place at filling station along East-West Road by Etohu, the policemen stormed the scene while the suspects were fleeing and gave them a hot chase”.
“A gun duel ensued, in the process two of the robbers were fatally wounded while others fled with gun shot wounds after they were over-powered by the overwhelming fire power of the police. The area is right now under intense combing with a view of arresting the fleeing armed robbers. One (1) AK-47 rifles and (12) rounds 7.62 of live ammunition were recovered from the hoodlums.”
