Senate president, Bukola Saraki made good his promise to heed the summons of the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.SARAKI BUKOLA

Exactly at 9.35 this morning, Saraki arrived in the court along with 12.

The tribunal chairman expected the Police Inspector General, Solomon Arase to bring him at 10 am to face allegations of false declaration of assets when he was governor of the central Nigerian state of Kwara, between 2003 and 2011.

He was expected to appear in court last week Friday, but on Thursday, his lawyers got a Federal court order summoning the officials of the Code of Conduct Bureau and the Code of Conduct Tribunal against Monday 21 September. In the interpretation of the lawyers, the summons ought to have stopped the trial.

But the tribunal insisted he must appear and issued a bench warrant.

His lawyer, Joseph Bodurin Daodu pledged to bring him voluntarily on Monday.

However, the promise was not kept, making the tribunal to renew the warrant for his arrest and appearance today.

Desperate efforts by Saraki’s legal team to quash the warrant and stop the trial collapsed at the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, leaving saraki with no option than to make his appearance at the tribunal headed by Umar Danladi.
