State Assembly refuses to screen a female nominee

The Niger State House of assembly has refused to screen a female commissioner who was nominated by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

The House completed the screening of all the other nominees said it was withholding the screening of Mrs. Roseline Abara from Shiroro Local government area following a protest by people from her constituency.

Mrs Abara belongs to APC and the Shiroro local government members of the All Progressive party staged a peaceful demonstration at the assembly two weeks ago immediately they learnt that Governor Abubakar Sani Bello had included her name in the second batch of commissioners nominees.

They came in private and hired Commercial vehicles, the protesters sealed the entrance to the assembly chanting war songs and carrying placards some of which read ’we don’t want  a female commissioner’, ‘We don’t know Sarah’ among others.
