The election of Godwin Obaseki as governor of Edo State was unanimously upheld by a seven-man panel of judges of the Supreme Court on Monday.

The panel of judges led by Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria, dismissed the appeal filed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2016 governorship election in the state, and said it would give reasons for its decision on July 24.

In April, an election petition tribunal led by Ahmed Badamasi dismissed the suit filed by Ize-Iyamu, challenging the election of Obaseki for lack of merit.

Ize-Iyamu then filed an appeal against the judgment of the tribunal at the appeal court, but he lost the case. Not done, he went to the apex court, which on Monday, dismissed his appeal.

The declaration of the Supreme Court ended the challenge of election of Obaseki as governor by Pastor Ize Iyamu who contested against him on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.
