The Lagos state Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences unit says it has seized 1,576 commercial motorcycles otherwise known as Okada in the last few months for violating the state road Traffic Law. Chairman of the Task Force, Olubukola Abe who disclosed this to newsmen in Ikeja while speaking on its activities said his men confiscated 814 Okadas in September.

According to him, 146 were seized in June, 278 in July and 484 in August. Abe insisted that the agency was determined to clear all forms of environmental nuisance responsible for traffic bottlenecks in the metropolis. He, however, said the activities of his men were conducted in line with best practices and civil. According to him, matters outside the jurisdiction of the Task Force brought before it were quickly referred to the police and other government agencies.

The Chairman of the Task Force noted that they always provide suspect who could not afford a counsel to defend him before the mobile court with free legal support. On allegation that the Task Force keeps suspect beyond 24 hours permitted by the law, Abe explained that one of the reasons for that is proximity to the court.

He also cleared the air on what is done with perishable items seized during operation, saying the Task Force sends such to various homes across the state
