Van Gaal will be saying we shot ourselves on the foot

Am not trying to blow Pedro’s trumpet just yet but let us be frank Man United and Van Gaal let a sumptuous opportunity slip through their fingers just they did with Thiago Alcantara.

Signing Pedro would not just be another marquee signing and not signed just for the sake of signing but would actually have been a step up for United especially in areas where they are currently lacking.

At first, I thought the amount asked by Barcelona was too high and that was the reason they were dragging it out with Barcelona. So you can imagine my surprise when I found out that Chelsea signed him for just £19m, potentially rising to £21m. We are talking about a world cup winner, a triple champions league winner, a player that has won 18 major titles in 7 years, a player that scored 99 goals for Barcelona and the list continues.

For a club that spent £24m and £12.4m for less proven players like Schneiderlin and Darmian respectively while also dishing out another £14m for a 31 year old Schweinstieger (who truth be told will hardly play the full 90mins), its a bit surprising that they actually consider £21m too high for a proven star like Pedro.

So why many Man United fans keep taking a swipe at Mourinho (who I think was smart to act swiftly), Van Gaal and his cohort would definitely had watched Pedro’s debut performance saying to themselves, we shot ourselves on the foot for this one.
