8 dead in Taraba APC rally, says Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a high powered delegation to condole with the government and people of Taraba over the death of eight people following a stampede during the presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jalingo.

The delegation compromised of Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustafa, Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, among others.

Speaking at Government House, Jalingo, on Sunday, Mustafa said they deployed by the president to commiserate with the people over the unfortunate incident.

According to him, the incident has further rekindled the determination of Buhari to be more determined to better the lives of ordinary Nigerians considering the sacrifice made by the deceased.
Mustafa urged politicians and other category of people to be mindful that Nigeria must remain united during and after the elections.

While handing over a letter of condolence personally signed by the president, the SGF described Taraba as a state endowed with abundant resources.

He reminded Gov. Darius Ishaku of that the citizens of the state were entrusted under his own care.
Responding, Ishaku appreciated the prompt response of the president by sending the delegation to condole the people.

He advised other politicians to emulate Buhari by exercising high standard to be able to manage their citizens.

According to him, the president has exhibited maturity and pointed out that he has gone extra miles to ensure that the APC rally is hitch-free.

He promised to continue to serve the people, urging them to continue to imbibe the culture of peace.

Eight people died while others sustained injuries during the presidential campaign rally by in Jalingo.
