Nigerian Army stations troops in Tidibale community, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, following bandit threats. This move aims to restore confidence, ensure safety, and prevent criminal elements from returning amid rising insecurity in Nigeria’s North West.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj. Gen. Bemgba Paul Koughna, disclosed this during an assessment visit to the community on Sunday.
Koughna explained that the troops deployment in Sokoto was to maintain robust security in Tidibale after residents, who fled due to bandit threats, began returning home. He assured locals of vigilant troops ready to tackle any challenges.
“The Nigerian Army is fully committed to protecting lives and property. Troops have been stationed here to ensure that no part of this community is taken over by bandits,” the GOC said.
Restoring Normalcy and Community Collaboration
The visit was part of Koughna’s initial operational assessment after assuming command. He emphasized that Sokoto State security operations would restore normalcy, enabling farming and daily activities without fear.
Koughna urged residents to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and collaborate with security agencies for effective anti-banditry efforts in North West Nigeria.
Community Leaders Express Gratitude
Speaking for the community, the Sarkin Arewa of Tidibale, Alhaji Ibrahim, thanked the Army for the timely intervention. He called the GOC’s visit reassuring amid security concerns, noting that the military presence has restored hope and confidence in lasting peace.
Operational Briefing at Forward Operating Base
Earlier, the GOC received a briefing from the Commanding Officer, 26 Battalion, Lt. Col. Nasiru Mustapha, at the Forward Operating Base in Isa. He was updated on the security situation in Sokoto and ongoing operations.
The Nigerian Army reaffirms its commitment to partnering with communities and stakeholders to sustain security gains and achieve lasting stability in Sokoto State and the North West region.
