The Nigerian Military has revealed that the Boko Haram attack on Dalori Village, which killed scores of people, was carried out using multiple methods.
Reacting to the attack that occurred on Saturday night, the military quoted witnesses as saying the “insurgents came in two Golf cars, motorcycles, started opening fire and burning houses.”
Apart from the direct invasion, the insurgents also used three suicide bombers to attack residents as they tried to flee, the military said in its statement on Sunday afternoon.
It was gathered that the attack which lasted about four hours; with scores, residents say as many as 100 people, killed.
Officials at the Maiduguri Specialists Hospital said 35 corpses were brought there after the attack, with about 100 others injured.
Another 70 corpses are believed to have been taken to the Maiduguri General Hospital, survivors said.
An operative of the vigilante group called Civilian-JTF, Alhaji Danbatta, who partook in the evacuation of victims told newsmen that many corpses are yet to be evacuated from the attacked village; and most of those killed in the suicide blasts have not been accounted for.
“The casualty is beyond our imagination and most of those that were injured are in very critical conditions,” Mr. Danbatta said. “Many of them may not survive because of the degree of injuries”.
The Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa, visited the victims at the Specialists Hospital. He ordered prompt treatment for all victims and said the state government would foot the necessary bills.
In its statement, the military said Hassan Umaru, a Major General who leads operations in the area, visited the village and commended the villagers for their resilience and urged them to be strong and committed in the fight against insurgency.”
