Legendary US country music singer, Don Williams who had great success with his easy-going singing style, has died aged 78.
According to his publicist, the native of Texas passed away after a short illness.
Williams began his solo career in 1971, amassing 17 number one country hits which included “You’re My Best Friend,” “Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good” and “Tulsa Time.” His biggest hit came in 1981 — “I Believe in You” reached the top of the country charts and #24 on the Hot 100.
He did some songs with notable figures like: Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend. Williams was known as the gentle giant of country music.
In 2010, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
