TRAGEDY! Seven killed in crash involving Obaseki’s convoy

Not less than seven persons, including two children, were killed on Saturday in a fatal car accident involving the advance team convoy of Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State.

The accident was said to have occurred after a Toyota Hilux van on the Governor’s advance team had a head-on collision with a passenger Audi car near Ehor village along the Benin-Ekpoma highway in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state.

The advance team were said to be on their way to Ambrose Ali University, AAU, at Ekpoma for the convocation of the university.

The Audi 80 car was conveying five adults and two children when the accident occurred.

It was learnt that a good Samaritan rushed the survivors and the dead to the First SAVAN Centre at the hospital.

Danmallam Mohammed, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident, describing it as “very unfortunate”.

He, however, refused to disclose details of the accident.

But Anthony Oko, Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that two children died on their way to the hospital.

He said all occupants of the Audi car died while the driver of the Hilux sustained injuries.
