17 burnt to death as truck-bus collide in Ogun

Atleast 17 persons were on Friday, burnt to death as a Dangote truck collided with a bus along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway corridor of Ogun State.

14 persons were burnt beyond recognition, while only three bodies were recovered from the ghastly accident with no sustained injury.

Kokomansion understands that the crash involved the Dangote flour truck with unknown registration number and a Mazda bus with registration number ZT728 KLD.

Superintendent Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, said that the occupants of the Mazda bus were burnt beyond recognition.

Okpe said that the cause of the auto crash was due to dangerous driving and route violation resulting to the head collision of the vehicles and fire outbreak

She said that one male and two females were recognised from the 17 passengers burnt to death in the accident.

The Route Commander said that it took the efforts the FRSC officials and the police, who were on rescue operations to recover the three bodies from the fire outbreak

She said “The total number of people involved is not ascertained, but a total of 17 bodies have been identified (1M,1F,1FC only have been identified), while others were burnt beyond recognition.”

The Sector Commander of Ogun FRSC Mr Ahmed Umar described the crash as an avoidable one if cautions were put in place and traffic rules and regulations were obeyed.

Umar, therefore, Commiserated with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact FRSC OGERE for more information about the crash.
