2 killed as suspected bandits abducts Chinese workers in Niger

Some kidnappers suspected to be bandits have abducted two Chinese workers at the Zungeru Hydro Power Dam project in Niger State.

Secretary to Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, made confirmation of the incident in Minna on Wednesday, saying the bandits also shot a Chinese worker and a Nigerian.

Spokesperson of the Niger Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said that the workers attacked were some Chinese expatriates and Nigerians.

He said they were attacked while working on a transmission line tower along Gussase village.

Abiodun said the “Police tactical team attached to the facility engaged the terrorists in a gun duel.

“While four of the expatriates were rescued, one of them and a local staff sustained bullet wounds.They were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

“In the process of scampering for safety during the gun duel, three among the expatriates could not be accounted for presently.

“Meanwhile, joint Police/military tactical teams at Zungeru are already on aggressive manhunt of the hoodlums and rescue of the missing/abducted expatriates.”
