2020 Budget: Senate, Reps begins debate

Just in less than 24 hours after the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, presented the 2020 appropriation bill, both chambers in the House of Assembly, has began a speedy debate on the budget.

Currently the legislators are making submission on the budget with some warning on the consequences of the huge deficit, and non-performance of the revenue generating agencies.

In the upper chamber (the Senate), Yahaya Abdullahi, is asking the upper chamber to enact or amend relevant laws to drive the generation of revenue, while the Senate minority leader Eyinnaya Abaribe, in strong words described the budgeted unsustainable.

According to him the budget had no focus and requested the Senate President not to be in a hurry to pass it in order to look at the issues on ground.

But the Deputy Senate Whip, Abdullahi Aliyu, did not agree saying the budget had focus adding that it is hinges in sustain growth and creation of jobs.

Aside from debating on the appropriation bill,  the senate also confirm the appointment of Adeleke Adewolu, as an executive commissioner hovering board in the National Communications Commission (NCC).

Hon. Chinda Kingsley in the House of Representatives commenced the plenary suiting an order, quoting section 12 rule 8.

Kingsley said the details of the appropriation bill was not contained in the bill and he requested that the house suspend debate until the Finance Minister submit details.

Speaker, Femi Gbajambiamila, ruled out Kingsley saying that what was needed to be debated was the general purpose of the bill not details
