5 cultists arrested for disrupting church activities

The Nigerian Police command in Edo state have arrested and detained five persons for disrupting church activities in Igueben local government area of the state.

The suspected persons alleged to be a secret cult member were alleged to have destroyed musical instruments of the Disciples for Church for All Nations on the 31st of December and beat up officiating minister and church members, during the crossover service for the new year.

‎Eyewitness said the one of the suspects came into the church with cigarette and beer and was ushered out of the church premises because of his cigarette and beer but he refused and said him and the minister in charge used to smoke and drink together.

Other witnesses stated that all the church members fled when the cultists invaded the church and ordered the pastor to leave.

It was also stated that the suspects called more of their group members from Benin, who invaded the community and increased the tension in the community.

The Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Osifo, said the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, he also added that more suspects may be arrested during the course of the investigation.
