A man of 60 is in police custody in Ogun State for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Abigi community located in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the State.
The Ogun State Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this to journalists, when he said the suspect committed the crime on Saturday.
“The police operatives attached to Abigi Division of the Ogun State police command have arrested one Adewale Enoch, 60, for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl, 12, on 26th December at 15:40hrs,” he said.
Adejobi went on to say that the suspect’s act was reported to the police by the father of the victim and the police arrested the man at Moborode Area, Abigi in Ogun Waterside Local Government of Ogun state.
He said the commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, had transferred the case to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further Investigation and prosecution, as the command has credible evidence to arraign the suspect.
“The police boss also appealed to parents and guardians to monitor their children or wards as all hands must be on deck to eradicate this criminal, barbaric and inhuman act in our society,” he said.
The Public Relations Officer said the commissioner has vowed to leave no stone unturned in the fight against child abuse, gender violence and other social vices that can expose our children to moral dangers.
