The police in Bayelsa have deployed 16 gunboats and 6,000 armed personnel in the creeks and waterways in the state.
Asuquo Amba, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, disclosed this in Yenagoa on Saturday during a visit by members of the state chapter of the Civil Liberties Organisation led by its Chairman, Nengi James.
He said the 6,000 officers were undergoing marine training, adding that the intelligence gathered by the police showed that waterways in Delta and Rivers had been calm due to synergy among the state commands.
Amba said out of the 16 gunboats, 14 were donated by the Bayelsa State Government while two were donated by the police zonal command. In his presentation, James, commended the Bayelsa Police Command for the recent successes recorded in the state.
