Accident involving 16 vehicles kills 5 along Lagos-Ibadan express way

Five persons have died and some 19 others injured in multiple accidents that occurred in the wee hours of Thursday, at Kara Bridge on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was reportedly caused by a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of diesel which rammed into a stationary truck carrying brewery products.

Fifteen people sustained injuries in the accident which involved 16 vehicles and resulted in an inferno.

Hyginus Omeje, the Lagos state sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said three of the victims died on the spot while two later died in the hospital.

“We received a call this morning that an accident occurred by the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where about 16 vehicles were involved.

“Three people died on the spot while two later died at the hospital, the crash involved many vehicles, including buses, cars and trucks.

“The number of people involved in the accident was 53. They are 40 men and 13 women.

“The injured people have been taken to the nearest hospital with the help of Lagos State Emergency Management.”

The vehicles involved were BDG27AA Nissan bus white; GGE818XC Daf truck white; XS216KSF Nissan Cabstar blue; APP769XR Daf truck white; MUS411DG Honda car black; APP303DV Honda Car green; AKD520XN Mazda bus white; and KTU340XU Ford bus white.

Others were FKJ475BR Lexus jeep; AGL545XF MAN Truck white; BDG561XG MACK Truck white; KRD122XC Sino Truck white; AGL197XD Sino Truck white; KRD123XC Sino truck white; KTU594XM Volkswagen bus yellow; and DAF Truck(BHN) no number.
