AFCON: Full Round of 16 fixtures – Nigeria battles Mozambique

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to lock horns with Mozambique in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The fixture was confirmed on Wednesday night following Mozambique’s 2-1 defeat to Cameroon. The loss consigned the Mambas to a third-place finish in Group F; however, they successfully advanced to the knockout phase as one of the four best third-placed teams.

In stark contrast, Nigeria enters the next round in commanding form. The Super Eagles finished at the summit of Group C, securing a perfect record of three wins to collect the maximum nine points.

The last AFCON meeting between Nigeria and Mozambique dates back to the 2010 tournament in Angola. It was a memorable outing for the Eagles, who secured a dominant 3-0 victory courtesy of a brace from Peter Odemwingie and a sealing strike from Obafemi Martins.
