Former Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, has thanked the medical staff and the global football community for their support and messages after recovering from a brain haemorrhage surgery.
The 76-year old Ferguson, now a director at the club, suddenly fell ill on May 5 and underwent an emergency surgery on his brain.
In a video posted on Manchester United’s Twitter account, the now fit and smiling Scot expressed gratitude to the staff of Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals for “such great care” in the aftermath of the operation.
He also appreciated all persons who sent him messages of solidarity from all over the world during his time at the hospital’s intensive care, noting that he was deeply humbled.
He said, Hello. Just a quick message, first of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals.
”Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. So thank you from me and my family, thank you very much.”
Ferguson also used the opportunity to wish his affiliated club side success in the upcoming 2018/2019 football season.
“Lastly, I’ll be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players. Thank you very much”, he said.
Ferguson, regarded as one of the greatest managers in the game, won 38 trophies during his 26 year-stint with Manchester United, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles.
