Manchester United’s winger, Anthony Martial, has reacted to reports that Manchester United would sanction him for not returning to the club’s preseason training.
Reports emanating from England suggets that Martial could be fined two weeks wages for going AWOL from the club’s tour in the United States.
The player earns around £90, 000 per week and the club consider his two-week salary as a suitable punishment.
Martial did not return to the club in eight days, after leaving the training base in Los Angeles to attend to the birth of his baby boy in Paris.
Jose Mourinho, Manchester United’s manager had called on the player to return to the U.S, following the club’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the International Champions Cup, ICC, last Sunday.
“He has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God – he should be here and he is not here,” Mourinho had said.
His team mates flew back to England on Wednesday from Miami without any sign of the Frenchman.
After ending the tour with a 2-1 win over Real Madrid, Mourinho admitted that he “does not know” if Martial will rejoin the team this week.
But the French forward fired back via Twitter on Wednesday, saying he would be back to the club on Thursday.
He explained that following complications from his child birth, he had to be with his wife and child as “my family will always go before everything.”
“Thank you all for your messages. My little Swan is fine, for the mother it was more difficult but thanks to God she is better now. Sorry but my family will always go before everything…Back tomorrow in Manchester.”
Martial’s future at Old Trafford has now been further put into jeopardy, after the issue has again stretched his relationship with Mourinho.
The Portuguese wants to sell the player before the August 9 deadline. The forward has also not made secret of his desire to quit Old Trafford under the former Chelsea coach. Martial joined United three seasons ago from the French side, Monaco, for a fee in excess of £50million.
