The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman, Tony Anenih has explained how he shared the N260 million paid into his bank account from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that the said cash came from the allegedly mismanaged $2.1 billion arms funds.
However, Anenih has written the EFCC explaining his own side of the story and how he got the money.
He said he N63 million was given to a group coordinated by a former Special Assistant to former President Shehu Shagari (National Assembly Liaison), Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, so that it can be used for the 2015 presidential election.
He said to the EFCC that he didn’t benefit from the money, that he only shared it, following instructions.
It was discovered that the probe of the PDP Spokesman, Olisa Metuh was sequel to a letter sent to the EFCC by a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, on how he disbursed the N260million paid into his account by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
A source in EFCC said that Chief Tony Anenih wrote to the EFCC explaining how the N260million from ONSA was shared to various groups, including a team being coordinated by Tanko Yakassai.
According to the source, Anenih stated in the letter that N63million was given to Yakassai’s group. He mentioned a few others whose identities won’t be disclosed until the investigation has reached the stage.
The names of all the beneficiaries of the N260million soon be unveiled. The source said the level at which the investigation had reached now Yakassai will be invited to come and explain why his group was allocated N63million out of the arms funds.
The source also added that apart from the letter Anenih wrote, he too will be invited to make a Statement on Oath and for interrogation.
Adding that one of the charges against a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki and a former Director of Finance and Administration, Shaibu Salisu, was the transfer of N260million to Anenih.
