Arsenal sends Chelsea out of Carabao Cup, to play City in final

Arsenal football club of England eliminated their London rivals Chelsea in the second leg of Carabao Cup semi-final. The Gunners came from behind to win 2-1 on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium.

They will now meet Manchester City in the final in Wembley on 25 February.

It was the fourth time in the last five seasons that  Arsenal would qualify for the final of a domestic cup final.

Eden Hazard scored for Chelsea in the 7th minute but five minutes after defender Antonio Ruediger gifted Arsenal a goal, to cancel Chelsea lead.

In the second half, midfielder Granit Xhaka scored the winner for the Arsene Wenger team.

Arsenal had played a goalless draw with Chelsea in the first leg last week.

Some Facts About Arsenal’s League Cup history:

  • This was Arsenal’s 15th appearance in the League Cup semi-final, and this is the eighth time the club  have progressed to the final.
  • This was Arsène Wenger’s seventh League Cup semi-final, and the third time he has reached the final. He previously beat Tottenham in 2007 and Ipswich in 2011 to reach the final.
  • Arsenal will be playing in the final for the eighth time, they  won two of the previous seven appearances (in 1987 and 1993).
  • Arsène Wenger  lost his two previous League Cup finals, against Chelsea in 2007 and Birmingham City in 2011.
  • Arsenal won each of their last nine visits to Wembley though, including two victories against  opponents in the final, Manchester City.
  • Arsène Wenger will be looking for his 11th domestic honour for Arsenal, but his first League Cup.
