Aston Villa have secured promotion back to the Premier League, after they defeated Derby County 2-1 in the Championship Play-off final at Wembley on Monday.
Villa took the lead on the stroke of half-time through man of the match, Anwar El Ghazi, before a howler from Derby ‘keeper, Kelle Roos, saw John McGinn double their lead on 59 minutes.
Jack Marriott pulled a goal back for Derby with nine minutes remaining, but it was Dean Smith’s men who held on to win the most lucrative game in football.
The result sees Villa return to top-flight football in England in their second attempt, avenging last season’s play-off defeat to Fulham.
Also, the result denies Derby boss, Frank Lampard, a fairytale end to his first season in management.
Villa now join Norwich City and Sheffield United as the three promoted teams to the Premier League for next season.
