Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recently held presidential election, has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke over his declaration as governor-elect by the Osun State governorship election tribunal.
Senator Adeleke, the PDP candidate in the election, had approached the tribunal challenging the victory of the governor and the APC in the elections.
Following the successful upholding of Senator Adeleke’s petition on Friday, Atiku hailed the Nigerian judiciary for the judgment, describing the third arm of government as “the last hope of the common man.”
“Truly, the judiciary is the last hope of the common man and the defender of our democracy. Congratulations Sen. Ademola Adeleke,” he tweeted.
The three-man, which delivered a split decision, held that with the failure of INEC to provide any credible explanation to the alteration, the Forms EC8A in the affected polling units where the election results were disputed “were tampered with” after the conclusion of the initial election.
The panel also concluded that Senator Adeleke and the PDP proved that it was the Returning Officer for the election in the state who cancelled the results of seven polling units in the state.
