Barcelona are facing sanctions imposed on them by FIFA for breaking the rules on the transfer of minors. However, they have threatened to take the issue to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Turan signed for Barcelona in the summer from Atletico MadridThis has made them unable to register Arda Turan, who they signed from Atletico Madrid in the close season. They are told they will not be able to register Turan until January because of the ban.

But a knee injury to Rafinha last month propelled Barca to ask the Spanish football federation (RFEF) and FIFA if they could replace the Brazil midfielder in the squad with Arda.

Although they would normally have to wait for the new window to open in January, the rules stipulate that in emergency cases such as injury, players can be registered outside the scheduled transfer windows.

“The legal department has confirmed that FIFA has not responded to the latest request presented on Friday, the third the club made,” said Barcelona in a statement.

“Given the lack of a reply, an appeal will be presented on Thursday to FIFA’s appeals committee as a precursor to an appeal to CAS.”
