BUNDESLIGA – Defending champion, Bayern Munich, on Sunday, sacked manager Niko Kovac after a poor run of form that has left them fourth on the log.

Kovac got the boot after Bayern suffered a 1-5 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, their worst league defeat in 10 years.

Bayern are now four points behind leaders Moenchengladbach after their biggest league loss since a humiliating 5-1 drubbing in April 2009 at Wolfsburg.

Despite winning the Bundesliga last and cup double last season, Kovac, who was appointed in 2018, was not seen as a favourite of the fans and did not also seem to have the backing of the club’s board.

Bayern under Kovac seemed to struggle to close out games in the domestic league and did not fare any better in the UEFA Champions League, crashing out in the second round to the eventual winners, Liverpool.

Speaking after Saturday’s defeat, the Croat had said he was not oblivious of the implication of the heavy defeat on his job.

“I know how this business works — I am not naive.

“My feeling is not important, the ones who make the decisions are the ones you have to ask at the end of the day,” Kovac had said.
