Some critics are beginning to say that the president’s trips have consumed a significant amount of cash in a country that is beset by a considerable financial crunch, a result of a deep dip in Nigeria’s earnings from oil exports.
There have also been comparisons on the number of local trips by Mr. Buhari, who has made very few official trips within Nigeria.

The president has been accused by the opposition of engaging in wasteful international junkets, adding that he has taken to attending conferences that should have been assigned to his political aides, permanent secretaries or ministers.

Buhari’s critics question the wisdom of his high volume of foreign trips at a time when Nigeria is entangled in one of its worst fuel shortage crises in years. The fuel shortage has also been compounded by a sharp drop in electric power supply in Nigeria.

The president is being urged by the opposition to pay attention to the problems at home, instead of engaging in foreign trips that are of little importance to the stability of the country.
